A "Special Hand" is a specific combination of 14 cards that allows you to go out instantly and end the hand, even before your team has made its initial meld or completed any canastas. Declaring a Special Hand is a powerful move that awards a significant point bonus, ranging from 2000 to 8500 points.
How to Declare a Special Hand in the App: When you believe you have all the required cards for a Special Hand, you can use the "Special" button in the app. The app will then verify if your hand is valid.
Key Rules for Special Hands:
- You must have exactly 14 cards in your hand that form one of the recognized combinations.
- You can only declare a Special Hand on your turn, before your team has made its initial meld. There is one exception: you may also declare it on your turn immediately after your partner has made their initial meld (this is known as the "Courtesy Rule").
- You cannot pick the pack to complete a Special Hand. The 14th and final card must be drawn from the draw pile.
- When a Special Hand is declared, the hand ends immediately. Your team receives only the points for that hand; any other melds or cards your partner holds are not counted. The opposing team scores their melded cards and penalties as usual.
