Aces and 7s are high-value cards that can earn significant bonus points, but they also come with major risks and penalties if you don't complete their canastas. Canasta Junction automatically enforces these specific rules.
Rules for 7s Melding 7s is a high-risk, high-reward strategy.
Always Natural: A meld of 7s can never include a wild card (Joker or 2).
High Bonus: A completed canasta of seven 7s is worth 2500 points.
Severe Penalties: If the hand ends and your team has started a meld of 7s but not completed it, you receive a -2500 point penalty. Additionally, if any player on your team is caught holding three or more 7s in their hand at the end, your team is penalized -1500 points.
Rules for Aces Aces offer more flexibility than 7s, but the rules depend on how you start the meld.
Clean vs. Dirty: A meld of Aces can only include wild cards if it was started with them during your team's initial meld. If you start a "clean" (natural) meld of Aces, the app will not allow you to add a wild card to it later.
Bonus Points: A completed "clean" canasta of Aces is worth 2500 points. A "dirty" (mixed with wild cards) canasta of Aces is worth 300 points.
Penalties: There is a -2500 point penalty for an incomplete "clean" Aces canasta. However, there is
no penalty for an incomplete "dirty" Aces canasta. Holding three or more Aces in your hand at the end results in a -1500 point penalty.
The app tracks these rules for you and will apply all bonuses and penalties correctly during scoring.
