In Canasta Junction, 3s are not used to create melds. Instead, they are scored separately at the end of a hand, and their value can be positive, negative, or neutral depending on one crucial factor: the number of canastas your team has completed.
The app automatically applies the following logic:
- If your team has ZERO canastas: The total value of your 3s is deducted from your score.
- If your team has ONE canasta: Your 3s are neutral and are not counted (worth 0 points).
- If your team has TWO OR MORE canastas: The total value of your 3s is added to your score.
Point Values for 3s When your 3s are counted (either as positive or negative points), the value is determined by how many you have of the same color:
- 1 of a single color (red or black): 100 points
- 2 of the same color: 300 points
- 3 of the same color: 500 points
- 4 of the same color: 1000 points
Penalties The app will also apply a penalty if a 3 is found in a player's hand when the hand ends.
- A 3 held in hand by mistake results in a 100-point deduction from the Count score.
- If a 3 is the very last card drawn from the deck, the game ends immediately, and that 3 is worth 5 negative points.
You don't need to memorize all of this; Canasta Junction calculates the correct score for your 3s automatically and includes it in your Base Score.
