At the end of each hand, Canasta Junction automatically calculates your team's score. The first team to reach a total score of 8500 points wins the game. The score for each hand is composed of two parts: the
Base Score and the Count Score.
1. The Base Score The Base Score is the sum of all your bonuses and penalties. The app calculates this by adding:
- The bonus for going out (100 points).
- All points from your team's completed canastas (e.g., 500 for a natural, 300 for a dirty, 2500 for natural Aces or 7s) .
- Points for your melded 3s (this can be positive, negative, or zero depending on how many canastas you have).
- Any penalties are deducted from this total, such as for incomplete special canastas .
2. The Count Score The Count Score is the value of all the individual cards your team played, minus the cards left in your hands.
- The app adds up the point value of every card your team has melded (including the cards inside your canastas).
- It then subtracts the point value of any cards left in your and your partner's hands.
- If your team did not complete any canastas, the value of all your melded cards and cards in hand becomes negative .
The Exception: Special Hands If a player goes out with a Special Hand, their team only gets the points for that hand. There is no Base or Count score calculated for them .
At the end of the hand, the app will show you a summary of both your Base and Count scores, which are then added to your team's total score.
